Forgaty International Research Ethics Training Programme for Eastern & Southern Africa

The Fogarty International Research Ethics Training Programme for Eastern and Southern Africa is being run jointly by University of Malawi College of Medicine and Michigan State University.

The goal of the 15-month program is to enable individuals with outstanding research or scholarly potential to develop a sustainable research and teaching program in the field of international research ethics. After completing advanced course work and independent study at Michigan State University and the University of Malawi, fellows design and conduct a research or scholarly project under the guidance of mentors from both universities, who will continue to assist the fellow until the project report is accepted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.

With guidance from their mentors, fellows also design courses relating to research ethics, to be taught at their home institutions. At the completion of all requirements, fellows will receive an advanced Certificate of Scholarship in International Research Ethics. Courses taken in this program can be counted towards a Master of Public Health Degree with Specialty in Bioethics from the University of Malawi, which will require completion of additional courses. All costs associated with this programme in both the US and Malawi are covered through the programme.

The MPH Degree with Specialty in Bioethics as well as the modules that are taught as part of this programme, are open to any other postgraduate students. The Programme also accepts applicants who secure funding from elsewhere.
